Benefits of Mental Health Counseling

Mental Health Counseling, which is often referred to as psychotherapy can be an effective tool in providing you with the necessary support and training to overcome the challenges you face. By seeking therapy, you are taking responsibility and action to change what no longer works in your life. Many studies have shown throughout the years that psychotherapy is an effective form of treating and managing mental illnesses and other emotional challenges.

Why should I SEEk to Counseling?

Depending on your present situation and your reasons for seeking help, there are many benefits to seeking counseling. If you are seeking diagnosis or treatment for a mental illness, counseling can help you better manage your symptoms, outbreaks, and triggers. It can also offer you increased coping skills and open your eyes to new ways of dealing with situations that you may not have been aware of before. Counseling can offer problem-solving skills, provide support, and help you work through life changes, allowing you to see your circumstances as a personal growth opportunity instead of a burden or obstacle.

Treatment modalities we use in therapy include, but are not limited to the following:

Effective for not only altering overt behavior, but also the thoughts that cause or contribute to such behavior. Used in individual and couple therapy.

OUR RESTORATIVE METHOD

TERC’s restorative method to helping individuals reduce emotional distress and build resilient lifestyles involves work at three levels: individual, community and large systems.

We provide counseling to individuals and families to help them build healthy and resilient lifestyles; promote institutional and cultural change within communities; and empower individuals by educating them about large systems.

OUR R.E.A.L COUNSELING METHOD

We use the R.E.A.L. Change Counseling Model to restore psychological health and build resilience during therapy sessions. The model, which was developed by Dr. Buckingham is rooted in the school of cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Dr. Buckingham developed the model to help individuals exchange lifestyles filled with hardship, disappointment and dread to lifestyles filled with favor, satisfaction and confidence.

R.E.A.L. is articulated as:

We work with clients to help them approach situations in a Realistic manner. Through cognitive processing, we help individuals gain insight and greater understanding of their hardships so that they can overcome them and heal properly.

We assist clients with developing rational Expectations so that they can use sound reasoning to cope with their hardships in healthy and productive manners.

We remind clients of the importance of maintaining a positive Attitude of self and others. This strategy is designed to help them understand that their attitude strongly influences their emotions, actions and behavior.

We teach clients how to demonstrate unconditional Love for themselves and others.

We teach clients how to demonstrate unconditional Love for themselves and others.

By using the R.E.A.L. Change Counseling Model, our Licensed Behavioral Health Therapists (LBHT) help individuals gain insight into and eliminate self-destructive, self-inhibiting and self-defeating behavior that negatively impacts their emotional health, psychological stability and overall functioning.
